This is a program for patients who have experienced a sudden decrease in their ability to look after themselves following an acute episode of illness or having undergone a surgical procedure.
The program focuses on:
• restoring mobility and fitness
• regaining optimum levels of independence
• prescription of an ongoing exercise program
• assessment and supply of mobility aids and equipment
• assessment and training in personal care activities, functional movement, household tasks
• home safety assessment
• prescription of aids to help our patients maintain their independence
Amputee rehabilitation program
The amputee program provides comprehensive treatment following surgery, until the final fitting of a prosthesis, including:
preparing of stump for prosthesis and learning how to apply an elastic bandage which will help shape the stump.
• exercises and gym work to help strengthen muscles and improve balance
• gait retraining
• a ward exercise program
• personal care activities
• household tasks
• energy conservation techniques
• return to work and/or leisure assistance
• return to driving
Other program components
This program most commonly treats acute and chronic pain caused by back and neck problems, tendonitis and pinched nerves and includes:
• improving strength and movement, balance, mobility, flexibility and endurance
• improving posture
• bending and lifting techniques
• sleeping
• sitting at home, work and in the car
• setting up of work environment
• pain management
• any other activities that our patients are keen to return to
